What is Electric Velocipede?

Electric Velocipede is a small science fiction zine that is published twice a year. Issues of Electric Velocipede have published authors such as Jeffrey Ford, Jeff Vander Meer, Alex Irvine, Liz Williams, Hal Duncan, Charles Coleman Finlay, and others. Authors who have appeared in Electric Velocipede have won the World Fantasy Award, the Nebula Award, the Edgar Award, the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer, the Crawford Award, and the International Horror Guild Award.

Many stories from Electric Velocipede have appeared in the recommended reading lists for both the Year's Best Fantasy & Horror and Year's Best Science Fiction for several years running.

Recently, Electric Velocipede went from a non-paying market to a paying market.

Who are you?

My name is John Klima. I was originally born in WI, but currently live in IA. I work as the Access Services Librarian at the Palmer College of Chitopractic. Previously, I worked for Asimov's & Analog science fiction magazines as well as Tor Books.

What do you pay contributors?

I pay 1 cent a word for short stories with a $25 minimum. For poetry, I pay $15 for one poem, $20 for two, and $25 for three or more poems. The author also gets two copies of the issue.
